System > Bandera/410 Interchange
Work began in
December 2005
on the $75 million Loop 410/Bandera Rd. interchange and expansion of
Loop 410 to ten lanes from Thunder Dr. to Callaghan Rd.
This project is part of the overall
Loop 410 Expansion
Project.
Details
The biggest component of this project
are elevated direct connectors from Bandera Rd. to Loop 410.
Specifically, connectors will be provided from southbound Bandera to
eastbound 410 and from westbound 410 to northbound Bandera.
Provisions will be made for possible future ramps from southbound
Bandera to westbound 410 and from eastbound 410 to northbound Bandera,
but those ramps will not be built as part of this project. The
bulk of commuter traffic currently using Bandera Rd. will be carried on
the elevated connectors, thus relieving the chronic congestion in the
Bandera/Wurzbach and Bandera/Loop 410 intersections.
The diagram below shows the
location of the elevated connectors. If you'd like to see a bigger

On Bandera Rd., the ramps will
terminate in the median at Rue Francois. There will be a left-hand exit
from southbound Bandera Rd. at Rue Francois onto the ramp for Loop 410 eastbound.
Traffic coming on the ramp from Loop 410 will merge into an added left lane on northbound Bandera at
the same location. From Rue Francois, the ramps will continue south
along Bandera as a single elevated bridge. There will be one lane
and a shoulder for each direction with a barrier separating the opposing
traffic. At Wurzbach, the bridge will split into the two
connectors. As they
turn onto Loop 410, the connectors will run
elevated along each side of Loop 410 between the mainlanes and the
access roads, continuing over Evers and touching down and merging with the Loop 410 mainlanes just west of Summit Parkway.
To facilitate the overhead lanes, the median along Bandera Rd. from
Seneca to Wurzbach will be closed with the exception of
dual turnarounds (one for each direction) between Thistle and Hurley
(about halfway between Rue Francois and Wurzbach.) The Bandera/Wurzbach
and Bandera/Loop 410 surface intersections will also see some minor
modifications.
Besides the elevated connectors
and the widening of Loop 410 to 10 lanes, this project will also move the westbound Loop 410
exit for Evers to the general area of today's Summit Pkwy. exit and move
the entrance ramp for westbound Loop 410 along that stretch to the
general area of today's Evers exit ramp. This will provide better
ramp spacing, allow for better merging, and also will allow traffic
leaving the shopping area at Summit Pkwy. to enter westbound Loop 410
directly rather than having to traverse the Evers and Bandera
intersections. Additionally, the exit ramp from eastbound 410
to Bandera Rd. will be widened to two lanes and the entrance ramp from Evers to eastbound Loop 410 will be
moved to just before Callaghan.
This project is not related
to the proposed Bandera Rd. tollway and will not be tolled.
Status
Construction
began in December 2005 and is 69% complete (January 2007). Projected completion is
in the 4th quarter of 2009.
