Note the concrete pylon for the overhead sign bridge and the lip on the upper level.  Originally, the overhead signs were
supposed to be attached to the lip, but an engineering issue required the setup you see here.

Note the overhead sign bridge on the upper level-- at this location, they chose to mount the sign bridge to the concrete lip. 
I have no idea why this one is like that while none of the others are.

Just north Fredericksburg Rd., looking south
Note the curved retaining wall-- this is where the original US 87 freeway, the first freeway in San Antonio, ended.  Outbound traffic went under Fredericksburg (the overpass in the background), then turned along this wall and climbed up to and merged onto northbound Fredericksburg Rd. (US 87) via Magnolia St.  Inbound US 87 traffic had an entrance ramp at about the same location of today's entrance ramp from Fredericksburg Rd. (picture above this one and visible at top right of this picture)

Magnolia St., just west of I-10
The curved line is the extension of the curve from the retaining wall along I-10 in the picture above this one.  When the freeway was extended north, it appears the missing section of the street was just filled-in and hasn't been touched since.
