Double-Decked Fwys > I-35 North
 |
Below are pictures from
the roadside and overpasses along the double-decked section of I-35
North, roughly proceeding north from Main St. north to St. Mary's St.
This freeway was double-decked in the late '80s. The lower
level is essentially the same freeway built in the early '50s,
minus a few ramps.

There is no access road or city street under the northbound
side.

approaching Main St.
Elmira St. functions as an access road along the southbound
side.

Looking at the entrance ramp
to northbound I-35 from Quincy St. north of Main St.
Quincy St. serves as an access road for the northbound side,
although it is about one block east of the freeway.

On divider between Elmira St.
and ramp from northbound I-35 at Brooklyn Ave.
The ramp meets Elmira St. right at the Brooklyn intersection, so
there's
special signal sequencing with separate greens for the ramp and
Elmira.

Looking north along Elmira St.
just north of Brooklyn Ave.
This is essentially where the double-deck begins. You can
see the lower level descending between the upper level ramps.

from just south of St. Mary's St.
This is looking toward the location of the picture above this
one about three blocks up Elmira.
