This section of I-35 used to have a concrete surface, but was recently paved over with asphalt because the surface was too slippery when wet and too loud.  You can still see the concrete surface on the outside shoulders.

This is Selma, once a renown speed trap.  Speed enforcement is still rather rigorous here, but significantly toned-down since its heyday, much of that due to an increase in the speed limit here to 70 mph and a dramatic increase in development.
