General information about the
schematics
The freeway schematics found
on this site are designed primarily to show the layout of freeway lanes
and the relative location of entrance and exit ramps, cross streets,
access roads, and other important features. Here are some
important notes about the schematics to understand and keep in mind:
- The schematics are not to scale.
- Lane layouts are
shown for freeway mainlanes, auxiliary lanes, acceleration and
deceleration lanes, collector/ distributor lanes, and ramps.
Lane layouts are not shown for access roads or other roadways
due to space limitations, the complexity of the lane configurations
of those roads, and the desire to keep the clutter on these
schematics at a minimum.
- Ramps are shown in their approximate
position.
- Except where especially noteworthy, cross streets are shown as perpendicular to the
freeway and not at the actual angle of intersection, and the
freeway is always shown as straight regardless of any curves or
alignment changes.
- Alignment changes of the access roads
on this schematic are done for spacing purposes and do not
necessarily reflect alignment changes of the actual access road.
- Future lane and ramp layouts are shown for areas currently under
construction and are based on plans available from TxDOT at the
time construction started and may be subject to change.
The schematics were composed
by hand in Visio 2003 using a combination of field surveying of the
road, maps and aerial photos, and the author's own personal knowledge.
