Below are several charts and maps tabulating traffic counts (Annual Average Daily Traffic, AADT) for San Antonio's freeways.  The comments, rankings and other calculations are my own analysis based on raw data from the TxDOT 2005 San Antonio District traffic count map.

Summary

No major surprises this year.  The city's busiest location for 2005 moved back to 2003's top spot, I-10 at Callaghan, with over 197,000 vehicles per day.  Last year's top spots slipped to second and third place.  This is the third year in a row that I-10 has claimed the top spot.  Traffic on Loop 410 North between I-10 and I-35 continues to be well-below the record levels in the late '90s, likely due to ongoing construction.  However, traffic on Loop 410 near Bandera appears to be booming.

The top 20 one-year growth locations in 2005 were widely scattered over most of the city with four of the top six along the eastern leg of the Wurzbach Parkway, which obviously is starting to become an attractive alternative to Loop 410. 

No major changes in the top locations for growth since 1990, which continue to be along and immediately adjacent to the northern arc Loop 1604 and along SH 151 outside Loop 410.

A footnote to this year's stats: TxDOT seems to have increased the precision of the numbers with counts now being rounded at the tens rather than the thousands as was the previous practice.
